Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Task Force of Human Trafficking Crimes (TPPO) at the Indonesian National Police (INP) Headquarters and regional police offices has successfully rescued 1.569 TPPO victims from 472 cases that have been diligently investigated and addressed from June 5 to June 22, 2023, Brigadier General Ahmad Ramadhan, the Head of the Public Affairs Bureau of the INP Public Relations (PR) Division, confirmed.
He also revealed that the number of TPPO suspects has reached 552 individuals, reflecting the widespread nature of this criminal activity.
The modus operandi commonly employed by traffickers involves enticing victims with the promise of lucrative employment opportunities as Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) or Domestic Workers (PRT). This particular modus operandi accounted for 361 cases, indicating the prevalent exploitation in the labor market. Following closely is the involvement of victims in Commercial Sex Work (PSK) with 116 cases. Additionally, 6 cases involved victims being coerced into becoming Ship Crew Members (ABK), while 25 cases involved the exploitation of children.
Amidst these revelations, he conveyed the Chief of INP's message of caution to the public against falling prey to the allure of high-paying jobs, and stressing the importance of verifying the legitimacy of labor supply companies to ensure social protection, welfare, and the preservation of legal rights.
