Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesian National Police's (INP) Task Force for Combating Human Trafficking (Satgas TPPO) has received 314 police reports, leading to arrest of 414 suspects.
Brigadier General Ahmad Ramadhan, the Head of the INP's Public Affairs Bureau of the Public Relations (PR) Division, stated that among these reports, 237 were related to human trafficking, while 77 were connected to crimes against Indonesian migrant workers (PMI).
"Based on data from June 5th to June 15th, 2023," he said in a written statement on Friday (June 16, 2023).
He further revealed that the total number of victims reached 1.314 individuals. Among them were 507 adult females, 76 underage females, 707 adult males, and 24 underage males. According to the data, 64 cases are currently under investigation, while 250 cases are in the prosecution stage.
The residential areas were the most frequent locations for human trafficking incidents, accounting for 129 cases. Hotels ranked second with 33 cases, followed by ports with 16 cases. In terms of crimes against Indonesian migrant workers, the highest number of incidents occurred in residential areas (41 cases), followed by public roads (10 cases), and offices (9 cases).
"The top three modus operandi for human trafficking include persuasion in 92 cases, transportation in 27 cases, and seduction in 23 cases," he said.
Meanwhile, the primary modus operandi for crimes against Indonesian migrant workers were persuasion (36 cases), transportation (12 cases), and fraud (9 cases).
Regarding motives, economic gain was the most prevalent in human trafficking cases, with 123 instances. This was followed by intentional motives in 69 cases and social issues in 21 cases. For crimes against Indonesian migrant workers, intentional motives ranked the highest with 32 cases, followed by economic gain with 30 cases, and social issues with 6 cases.
