Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. The Papua Regional Police succeeded in uncovering four cases of the Crime of Trafficking in Humans (TPPO) which resulted in the detention of six suspects.

"This investigation is a follow-up to the concerns of President Joko Widodo and the Chief of the Indonesian National Police (INP), Police General Listiyo Sigit Prabowo, in taking firm action against cases of human trafficking throughout Indonesia," explained the Chief of Public Relations for the Papua Regional Police, Police Senior Superintendent Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo, in a written statement, Saturday (17/6/23).

He further revealed that the four police reports (LP) related to human trafficking cases came from the Papua Regional Police (two cases), the Jayapura City Police (one case), and the Jayapura Resort Police (one case). The impact of these human trafficking cases caused eight people to become victims of this crime.

Police Senior Superintendent Ignatius Benny Ady adds the investigation and disclosure of this case demonstrates the commitment of the Papua Regional Police to eradicate human trafficking crimes in their territory. It is hoped that this decisive action can provide protection to the public and provide a deterrent effect for perpetrators of trafficking crimes.

Meanwhile, the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department for the Papua Regional Police, Police Senior Superintendent Arif Bastari, explained that the perpetrators in the case would be subject to Article 2 of Law no. 21 of 2007 in conjunction with Article 506 of the Criminal Code with a minimum penalty of 3 years in prison and a maximum of 15 years in prison, as well as a minimum fine of 120 million rupiahs and a maximum of 600 million rupiahs.
