Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Brigadier General Djuhandhani Rahardjo Puro, Director of the General Crime Unit, disclosed a suspected case of human trafficking, disguised as a "ferien job" internship in Germany, on Wednesday (20/3/2024).
The investigation began with a report from the Indonesian Embassy in Germany about four students facing issues with the program.
The suspects, including ER (39), AE (37), AJ (52), AS (65), and MZ (60), were accused of exploiting students through irregular employment practices.
Involving 1,047 students from 33 Indonesian universities, the scheme was facilitated by two labor agencies.
Students received program information from CV GEN and PT SHB, which charged fees for a letter of acceptance (LOA) and German work permit.
Upon arrival, PT SHB provided contracts and permits, though in German, posing language challenges.
The "ferien job" ran from October to December 2023.
