Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Criminal Investigation Agency of the Indonesian National Police (INP) warned parents to monitor their children's phone usage following the discovery of online gambling sites utilizing mobile credit for deposits.
General Crimes Director Brigadier General Wira Satya Triputra highlighted that phone credit payment methods lower barriers to entry, making gambling accessible to minors with smartphones.
"Gambling can now be accessed via phone credit, so it is entirely possible that children could become trapped or addicted," he said during a press conference in Jakarta on Friday (14/8/2026).
The warning follows the Criminal Investigation Agency’s bust of an international gambling network running the Cambodia-based site "Ujangbet," which processed over Rp 890 billion in transactions. The syndicate converted accumulated phone credit into Indonesian rupiah through distributors in Batam, Medan, and Pekanbaru to launder illicit profits, as reported by antaranews.com.
