Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo called for public composure Monday (6/4/2026) as regional conflicts in the Middle East triggered a sharp increase in the cost of imported foodstuffs and plastic materials.
"There is no need for panic buying because stocks for all primary essential goods remain sufficient and stable," he said during a press briefing as reported by antaranews.com
The Jakarta administration is currently conducting daily market monitoring to curb inflation, which remains within manageable levels despite a reported 50% surge in plastic prices. The Indonesian Market Traders Association (IKAPPI) attributed the price spike to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime route for the raw petroleum materials used in plastic production and imported soy.
Consequently, local staples such as tofu and tempeh have seen incremental price hikes as shipping disruptions persist. Authorities emphasized that while global geopolitical tensions are pressuring supply chains, the administration is prepared to intervene to ensure food security and price transparency across all traditional markets in the capital.
