Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Immigration Office in West Jakarta has uncovered a scam involving two Chinese nationals recruiting Indonesians to work as scammers in Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia.
On Friday (6/9/2024), Nur Raisha Pujiastuti, the Head of the West Jakarta Immigration Office, said that officers detained the suspects and collected evidence. The investigation began with a cyber patrol that identified suspicious job offers on Facebook, according to antaranews.com.
Officers conducted a sting operation, meeting the suspects at a café on 27 August 2024.. Prospective employees were interviewed, tested, and promised jobs with a 12-hour shift matching US time zones. They were also promised salaries, round-trip tickets, accommodation, and overtime pay. After obtaining passports, the suspects arranged a follow-up meeting on September 2, where they were apprehended.
Seized items included two Chinese and two Indonesian passports, one laptop, and six mobile phones. The suspects, who entered Indonesia on a Visa On Arrival (VoA), are now in custody for further investigation.
