West Jakarta Sub-regional Police Campaigns Against Trash Open Burning to Combat Air Pollution

Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  The West Jakarta  Sub-regional Police engaged in a campaign to discourage open burning of trash in an effort to combat air pollution in the capital city and to encourage citizen to actively participate in preserving air quality, an official said on Wednesday (13/9/2023). "One simple action we can take is to refrain from burning trash recklessly," Assistant Superintendent Tuti Aini, theHead of the Community Development Unit  of the West Jakarta Police, said . She emphasized that by refraining from trash open burning, citizens contribute significantly to reducing air pollution. Hence, the West Jakarta Police are determined to alter community behaviors. "This educational campaign targets schools, community meetings, and leverages social media to convey crucial messages," Tuti explained, adding that this campaign aims to raise awareness about the importance of environmental preservation and public health. Within this educational effort, Tuti mentioned that the police provide information to citizens regarding the dangers of open burning and its consequences on health and the environment. In addition to discouraging open burning, Tuti urged citizens to adopt more environmentally friendly waste management practices. "With good cooperation, we can all work together to maintain clean and healthy air quality for future generations," Tuti affirmed. Moreover, the West Jakarta Sub-regional Police, in collaboration with the West Jakarta Environmental Department, have organized free vehicle emissions testing activities. "If any vehicle fails the emissions test, they will be directed to service stations provided for rectification," she explained. The West Jakarta Environmental Department has imposed fines on businesses and individuals engaged in illegal trash burning at 15 locations across the city, as part of efforts to safeguard air quality in the capital. Ahmad Hariadi, the Head of the West Jakarta Environmental Department, stated that these actions are in accordance with the Jakarta Regional Regulation No. 3 of 2013, Article 130, concerning Waste Management. In the enforcement against illegal trash burning, violators face fines ranging from Rp100,000 to Rp500,000.
