Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Jakarta Metro Jaya Regional Police have uncovered  a motorcycle theft syndicate involved in receiving stolen motorized vehicles, locally known as "curanmor," implicating military personnel.  According to Senior Superintendent Wira Satya Triputra, the Director of Criminal Investigation Unit at Metro Jaya Police, the case originated from a police report in 2022. "Upon receiving the report, we initiated an investigation and arrested two suspects," he said on Wednesday (10/01/2024). The suspects, identified as MY and EI, had distinct roles within the syndicate. MY acted as a collector of stolen motorcycles, while EI handled the financial aspects of selling the stolen motorcycles, particularly to Timor Leste. Further details revealed that the stolen motorcycles were initially stored at the Central Engineering Battalion of the Army Engineer Corps (Pusziad) in Sidoarjo, East Java before being shipped to Timor Leste through the Tanjung Perak Port in Surabaya. "Following the arrest of the suspects, we expanded our investigation, leading to the discovery of 46 four-wheeled vehicles and 214 two-wheeled vehicles of various brands," Chief Wira explained. He said that the ongoing investigation implicates three military personnel, identified as  Major BP, Second Corporal AS, and Chief Private J. The police, along with the Indonesian Military, are currently delving into the specific roles of each military member. "I want to emphasize that our investigators are working closely with the officials from the Military Police Command," Chief Wira added. (mg/fa/pr/nm)
