Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. Jakarta, up until now, still holds the title as one of the most polluted cities in the world on Tuesday (9/25/2023). Jakarta now stands at the fifth with worst air quality in the world.
According to IQAir, the air quality index (AQI) of Jakarta has reached 147. The high AQI was due the concentration of PM2.5 reaching 55 microgram per cubic meter.
This category is considered unhealthy and could be dangerous for the vulnerable. The pollution negatively affects the vulnerable humans, animals, and plants while also damaging the environment aesthetic.
In facing this urgent issue, the acting Governor of Jakarta, Heru Budi Hartono, has released Governor's Decree Number 593 of 2023 concerning the Air Pollution Control Task Force. The policy is aimed to accelerate air pollution control in Jakarta.
Several concrete steps by the task force includes Standard Operating Procedure of Air Pollution Control in Jakarta by monitoring and controlling the pollution from industrial activities and continuously inspects the air quality along with its effect on community’s health.
The task force will also implement prevention measures on sources of pollution, both from moving and immovable sources. Other measures are mandatory motor vehicle emission testing, rejuvenation of public transportation, development of environmentally friendly transportation, and increasing open space and tree planting efforts.
Jakarta now stands as the fifth most polluted in the world with the first being Karachi in Pakistan with 222 AQI. Then followed by Delhi, India with 165 AQI, then Lahore in Pakistan with 163 AQI, and Baghdad in Iraq with 152 AQI.
