Inp.polri.go.id - Wamena. The Jayawijaya District Police in Papua Mountains on Thursday (11/12/2025) urged drivers operating on the Wamena–Jayapura and Wamena–regional routes to limit travel to daytime hours to reduce criminal threats reported during night trips.
“We want to ensure everyone’s safety, so we strongly advise drivers not to operate at night but use morning to late afternoon hours instead,” said Jayawijaya Police Deputy Chief Senior Inspector FD Tamaela, as cited by antaranews.com.
He explained that several nighttime incidents targeting intercity drivers prompted the advisory, especially ahead of Christmas 2025. He stressed that crime occurs when opportunities arise, and avoiding night travel can significantly reduce risks. Police also called on the local administration to improve lighting in areas lacking street lamps so residents feel safer after dark.
To maintain security, Chief Tamaela ordered local police offices to intensify patrols throughout December to prevent disturbances across Papua Mountains.
