inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo inaugurates the rehabilitation, renovation and venue development of XXI National Sport Week (PON) Aceh-North Sumatra in Banda Aceh on Monday (9/9/2024).

“To support the holding of PON XXI in Aceh and North Sumatra, we have renovated and built avenues in Aceh Province since 2023. There are 18 venues that have been built, renovated with a total cost of IDR 811 billion,” says Jokowi on Monday (9/9/2024).

The 18 avenues were spread in Aceh, from Banda Aceh, Aceh Besar, Pidie, and Central Aceh.

Jokowi asked all parties, particularly the regional government, to maintain and preserve the venues. He did not wish for the venues to be left untreated after the event of PON XXI was over.

“Use these venues to their maximum potential, as a place to search for the best talent in many sports, to improve their talents to compete at the domestic and international level,” says Jokowi.

PON 2024 marks the first time the national multi-event sports event will be held in two provinces simultaneously, which are Aceh and North Sumatra.

At least 13,000 athletes are competing to be the best until the closing ceremony scheduled to take place on September 20th, 2024.
