inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo inaugurates Temef Dam in South Central Timor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara on Tuesday (10/2/2024).

The Temef Dam has been built since 2017 and costs the government IDR 27 trillion. In his opening remarks, Jokowi says that water is the key for prosperity in East Nusa Tenggara.

“In East Nusa Tenggara, water is very vital as the people need it for rice, cassava, and corn plantations, also other needs,” says Jokowi in his remarks.

Jokowi explains that the government has built four dams in East Nusa Tenggara for the past 10 years. The four dams are Temef Dam, Rotiklot Dam, Raknamo Dam, and Napun Gete Dam.

"These dams covered a total of 298 hectares of land. This will be able to accommodate 45 million cubic meters of water," said President Jokowi.

He says that the huge capacity for water accommodation in the dam would provide huge benefits for the farmers. Other than being able to water 4,500 hectares of farm lands, the dam can handle the floodings in South Timor Tengah Regency and Malaka Regency.

“There is only 20 percent of water in the dam. Later on in January, the dam will be full of water. Hereby, I appeal to you to preserve this dam well for the better of SOuth Timor Tengah and surrounding society,” conclude Jokowi.
