Inp.polri.go.id - Banyuwangi. The crossing between Ketapang Port in Banyuwangi and Gilimanuk Port in Jembrana Regency, Bali, ceased operations for 24 hours during Nyepi Day, which falls on Monday (11/3/2024), Nyepi Day, or the Day of Silence, is a sacred Hindu holiday primarily observed in Bali to mark  the Balinese New Year according to the Saka calendar. Shelvy Arifin, Secretary of state-owned PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero), explained that this closure aligns with a collective decision regarding the observance of Nyepi Day. "In respect of Hindu devotees observing Nyepi, particularly in Bali where the majority are Hindu, ASDP will suspend port and crossing operations—crucial gateways to and from the island—during this time," she said on Sunday, as reported by antaranews.com The closure of the Ketapang-Banyuwangi crossing begins on Monday at 12 am  local time with the final regular ship departing from Ketapang Port on Sunday at 10 pm. To accommodate passengers yet to cross from Gilimanuk Port, Shelvy said that esxtra ships will continue operating until 5am, after which Gilimanuk Port will close. The first ship departing after Nyepi Day, from Ketapang Port, will sail on Tuesday at 5:am. Shelvy advised passengers to align their travel plans with port schedules and emphasized ASDP's directive for shipping operators to inform passengers of the temporary closure. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
