Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) called upon the Ministry of Communication and Information and the Indonesian National Police (INPP) to block online gambling games .
In response to a rise in school-age children participating in online gambling and based on a Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) report, KPAI Commissioner Diyah Puspitarini stressed the need for the websites offering gambling games to be screened and blocked.
"The ministry and the police can deploy cybercrime units to detect the early signs of issues like this. I am confident that it can be done. After all, if we can eliminate adult content sites, we can certainly address this issue," she said on Sunday (15/10/2023) as reported by antaranews.com.
According to Diyah, the surge in underage individuals accessing gambling games sites was driven by children's curiosity that likely lead to addiction and subsequent decline in physical activity, she said.
PPATK's analysis of over 159 million online gambling transactions in 2023, totaling IDR 160 trillion, highlighting significant underage participation in online gambling activities.
