Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) suspects more than 100 hajj travel agencies were involved in an alleged corruption scheme in allocating and managing the 2023–2024 pilgrimage quota at Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs.
“Travel agencies are not just one or two. Dozens, even more than 100, I believe. Many,” said Acting Deputy for Enforcement and Execution Asep Guntur Rahayu at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building, Jakarta, Tuesday night (12/8/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
He said large travel agencies received bigger portions from the 10,000 special hajj slots in 2024, part of an additional 20,000 quota granted by Saudi Arabia. The remaining 10,000 slots were for regular pilgrims. The case is estimated to have caused state losses exceeding IDR 1 trillion (around USD 65 million).
The KPK has slapped a travel ban for former Minister of Religious AffairsYaqut Cholil Qoumas, his ex-special staff, and a major hajj operator.
