Inp.polri.go.id - Kupang. A total of 14 regional flight routes to and from Kupang in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) were canceled on Saturday (2/8/2025) due to the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki in East Flores Regency.
“Wings Air has canceled multiple flights across the region due to volcanic activity,” said I Gusti Ngurah Yudi Saputra, the Acting Legal, Compliance & Stakeholder Relations at El Tari Airport authority, as quoted antaranews.com.
The volcano erupted twice, first reaching 10,000 meters on Friday night, then escalating to 18,000 meters early Saturday, prompting safety precautions.
Affected routes include Kupang–Lewoleba, Kupang–Maumere, Kupang–Ende, Kupang–Larantuka, Kupang–Bajawa, and Kupang–Alor, along with their return trips. The Kupang–Ende route alone had four different flight numbers canceled in one day.
Yudi urged passengers to remain calm and stay updated through official airline channels or El Tari Airport’s information center.
Despite the cancellations, El Tari Airport remains fully operational with no volcanic ash detected through routine paper tests.
