Inp.polri.go.id - Tangerang. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revealed that most of the 4,730 Indonesians working as online gambling operators abroad are in the productive age range, primarily between 18 and 35 years old.

“They are young, falling within the Gen Z demographic, and many come from middle-class backgrounds,” said Judha Nugraha, the Director of the Protection of Indonesian Citizens and Legal Entities, on Wednesday (23/10/2024).

He noted that some of those involved hold advanced degrees.

“We’ve identified individuals with higher education, even some with master’s degrees, and a former regional legislative member,” Judhas said, as reported by antaranews.com.

Data from the Ministry shows that from 2020 to the first half of 2024, the majority of Indonesian online gambling operators are located in Cambodia. The largest group comes from North Sumatra, North Sulawesi, West Kalimantan, and Central Java, with others scattered across various provinces.

Meanwhile, Inspector General Krishna Murti, the Indonesian National Police (INP's Head of International Relations Division, reported that 69 Indonesians working as online gambling operators in the Philippines have been deported.

“We’ve begun the repatriation process, with 35 people already returned,” he said.

Efforts to repatriate the remaining individuals will continue over the next few days, with flights scheduled to Jakarta, Medan, and Manado.
