Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  The Supreme Court has sentenced Gregorius Ronald Tannur to five years in prison for the murder of Dini Sera Afriyanti, overturning a previous acquittal by the Surabaya District Court.

The ruling came after the prosecution's cassation appeal was granted, nullifying the lower court’s decision.

"The Supreme Court has granted the prosecution's cassation, overturning the original acquittal," according to the court’s decision, which was published on Wednesday (23/10/2024).

The court found Ronald guilty under Article 351, Paragraph 3 of the Criminal Code for causing fatal injuries. The verdict was handed down by Chief Justice Soesilo, with judges Ainal Mardhiah and Sutarjo as panel members.

Ronald Tannur, the son of former House of Representatives (DPR) member Edward Tannur, was initially acquitted of murder charges by a Surabaya court on 24 July 2024. However, following public outcry and appeals, the Supreme Court took up the case.

The Judicial Commission later sanctioned the three Surabaya judges who delivered the original acquittal, citing violations of the Code of Ethics and Conduct, according to antaranews.com.

In a related development, the Attorney General's Office confirmed that the three judges were arrested on suspicion of accepting bribes in connection with Tannur's acquittal.
