Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Medical Council (MGBKI) is demanding an independent audit following the death of Dr. Myta Aprilia Azmy, an internship doctor who passed away while receiving treatment in Palembang.
The council raised concerns over alleged workplace exploitation during her service at K.H. Daud Arif Hospital in Jambi, sparking a national debate on medical training conditions.
"MGBKI urges the Ministry of Health, KKI, and educational institutions to conduct an independent audit of the chronology, supervision systems, and workload surrounding this incident," said MGBKI Chairperson Budi Iman Santoso on Sunday (3/5/2026), as cited by antaranews.com..
The council strictly condemned "victim blaming" and called for an immediate end to any intimidation against medical students who speak out about safety.
Budi emphasized that the medical internship system requires urgent national reform, including standardized working hours and better health protections for trainees. MGBKI pledged to monitor the case to ensure such a tragedy does not recur in Indonesia’s healthcare system.
