Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid has expected that TikTok’s decision to suspend its live-streaming feature in the country will not last long.
The platform halted the service voluntarily on Saturdayt following a surge of violent protests.
“TikTok informed us that the suspension was made voluntarily. We appreciate the decision, but we hope the shutdown will be temporary,” Minister Meutya told reporters after a cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace on Sunday (31/8/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
She stressed that President Prabowo Subianto has reiterated Indonesia’s commitment to remain open and responsive to public concerns, including those related to TikTok. While the suspension affects small businesses accustomed to live selling, she noted e-commerce activities can still continue through other features.
Minister Meutya added that the government expects conditions to improve soon so digital entrepreneurs can once again use the online platform.
