inp.polri.go.id - Banda Aceh. Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra, inaugurated the Rumoh Geudong Memorial Living Park in Bilie Village, Aron District, Pidie Regency, Aceh.

"This Memorial Living Park was built not only as a symbol of remembrance, but also as a manifestation of the state's presence in providing a safe and dignified space for survivors, victims' families, and the wider community," he said, as reported by Antaranews on Thursday (7/10/2025).

Rumoh Geudong was one of the Sattis Posts, or sites where violent and brutal human rights violations occurred during the Aceh conflict, which the Indonesian government has acknowledged through non-judicial resolution.

The original Rumoh Geudong has now been demolished and replaced with a memorial living park. A mosque has also been built there as a place of worship for the local community.

Yusril Ihza Mahendra stated that historical wounds cannot be simply erased; rather, it is crucial to believe that the government has provided recognition, respect, and healing as a path to dignified reconciliation for all.

He stated that the Memorial Living Park also serves as a place for remembrance and dialogue in building a more peaceful and just future.

"This park embodies collaboration between the central government, local governments, and civil society in developing a sustainable approach," he explained.

In his closing statement, he stated that the government would continue to promote other recovery efforts, including health, social, economic empowerment, and educational access for the victims' families.

"This recovery is not merely an act of pity, but rather a fulfillment of human rights and the state's responsibilities as guaranteed by the 1945 Constitution," he emphasized.
