inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. Ministers of Health of ASEAN approved the establishment of the ASEAN Center for Public Health Emergencies and Emerging Diseases (ACPHEED).
“We agreed to established ACPHEED. The aim is to deal with potential pandemic outbreaks in the future," explained the Indonesian Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin on the sidelines of a press conference of the 15th AHMM agenda at the Conrad Hotel, Bali, Saturday (14/5/22).
The Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia Budi Gunadi Sadikin explained that there are three pillars to form ACPHEED. These pillars include the pillars of surveillance, detection and response, and the pillars of risk management. "Three countries that have made commitments for each of these pillars are Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia. So they will work together to prepare everything if there is a potential outbreak," he explained.
Budi Gunadi Sadikin also explained that the existence of ACPHEED would integrate existing health protocols in ASEAN member countries. "We will synergize that later. If there are ASEAN member countries that have pandemic cases that have dropped significantly, then the relaxation of the process is higher than other countries whose cases have not decreased," he explained.
Indonesian Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin added that ACPHEED applies in ASEAN but its main competencies are in three countries, namely Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia. "Those three countries proposed that they want to have an office in Indonesia for one of the competencies, either surveillance, detection, or response," he explained.
