The Ministry of Communication and Informatics has took action against 1,971 hoax contents related to 2024 General Election in social media since July 17th, 2023. “We have detected there are 3,235 hoax contents, in which we have taken action on 1,971 of them,” says the Minister of Communication and Informatics, Budi Arie Setiadi on Tuesday (3/19/2024). Furthermore, the ministry says that the thousand of hoax contents are not taken down, but only labeled as hoax “as they are not proven dangerous,” quote the ministry. According to the ministry, the spread of hoax is evenly distributed in all social media platform. The narratives also vary from provocative ones to only just misinformation. The ministry also reveals that 92% of the hoax news are spread by almost the same social media buzzer which affiliates to certain groups. After thorough investigation on the situation at the digital space, the ministry assess that the situation is relatively safe and conducive. The issues that are flowing in social media is also considered normal and usual. “However we will continue our monitoring until the election process is completely over,” says the minister.
