Inp.polri.go.id - Yogyakarta. The Centre for the Study and Development of Geological Disaster Technology (BPPTKG) reported that Mount Merapi unleashed 13 lava flows on Thursday (2/11/2023), with the longest reaching up to 1,700 metres,
Agus Budi Santoso, the Head of BPPTKG Yogyakarta, said that these eruptions were directed towards the Bebeng and Boyong rivers, antaranews.com reported.
Low pressure crater smoke was observed above the summit, appearing white with low intensity, at a height of 75 metres above the crater.
Based on BPPTKG analysis from 20-26 October 2023, slight changes in the morphology of the southwest dome of Mount Merapi were observed due to lava flow activity. However, no significant changes were observed in the central dome.
Aerial photographs taken on 28 September 2023 determined the volume of Mount Merapi's southwest dome to be 3,097,700 m3 and the volume of Mount Merapi's central dome to be 2,358,500 m3.
The BPPTKG maintains Mount Merapi's status at Level III or Alert, a designation in place since November 2020. Potential hazards from lava flows and hot clouds may affect several rivers at varying distances from the summit.
