Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Mount Semeru, situated on the border of Lumajang and Malang, East Java, erupted late Saturday night, discharging a massive pyroclastic flow stretching 2.5 kilometers toward the southeast.
"The eruption occurred at 20:47 WIB, producing an ash column approximately 1,500 meters above the summit, drifting northwest with thick intensity," said Sigit Rian Alfian, an officer at the Mount Semeru Observation Post, as quoted by antaranews.com..
The seismic activity lasted 241 seconds, with the pyroclastic flow, locally known as awan panas guguran, moving toward the Besuk Kobokan area. While the discharge remained within the uninhabited "red zone," authorities have maintained the volcano's Level III (Alert) status.
Residents are strictly prohibited from conducting any activities within 13 kilometers of the peak along the southeastern sector and must remain at least 500 meters away from riverbanks to avoid the risk of secondary lahar floods.
