inp.polri.go.id - Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Jens Stoltenberg, said his party had begun processing the membership of Sweden and Finland.
Stoltenberg explained that NATO members will sign an additional protocol today, Tuesday (5/7), following all alliance member agreements regarding the status of Sweden and Finland.
"It's a good day for Finland and Sweden, and a good day for NATO," said Stoltenberg.
Stoltenberg further said about 32 countries gathered to discuss it.
"We will become stronger and people will be safer, because we are facing the biggest security crisis in decades," he said.
Stoltenberg also said the alliance is open to democratic European countries and is ready to contribute to common security.
Quoted by CNN, Finland and Sweden were finally able to join NATO amidst Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The steps of the two Nordic countries were hampered because Turkey did not agree to them joining. Ankara accuses Sweden and Finland of protecting a terrorist organization, the Kurdish militia. In addition, Sweden has suspended arms sales to Turkey since 2019.
However, last week Turkey finally agreed to join NATO.
