Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Following a recent deadly explosion at Shahid Rajaee Port in Bandar Abbas, Iran, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed on Sunday (27/4/2025) that no Indonesian citizens were among the casualties.

"There are 385 Indonesians in Iran, but none reside in Bandar Abbas," said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Rolliansyah Soemirat in a written statement, as quoted by antaranews.com.

Most Indonesian nationals in Iran are students living in Qom, while others are based in Tehran, he added.

Rolliansyah noted that although two Indonesian crew members had previously worked in Bandar Abbas, they had already returned home. The Indonesian Embassy in Tehran has coordinated with local authorities and Indonesian communities across Iran to monitor their safety and continues to do so regularly.

The explosion, suspected to have been caused by chemical materials from a gas tank, killed 25 people and injured at least 1,139 others. Witnesses reported that a small fire rapidly escalated due to intense 40-degree Celsius heat, igniting highly flammable stockpiles.
