Inp.polri.go.id - Surakarta. The National Paralympic Committee (NPC) Indonesia has been scouting athletes in preparation for the ASEAN Para Games in Thailand in 2026.
"We have created a roadmap for our journey to the Paralympics, with the Peparnas serving as a key platform to discover new talent," said NPCI’s Head of Achievement Development, Sapta Kunta Purnama, on Thursday (10/10/2024), referring to the on-going National Paralympics Week in Surakarta, Central Java.
He acknowledged the current lack of competitions to effectively select athletes, noting that participation from various provinces has been sudden and sporadic, as reported by antaranews.com.
"We are preparing our athletes for competition in Thailand and enhancing their skills in hopes of competing at the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Olympics," Sapta said, confirming that this year's Peparnas would align with the sports disciplines included in the upcoming ASEAN Para Games.
Budi Ariyanto Muslim, the Assistant Deputy for Sports at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, highlighted that the National Sports Development Blueprint, outlined in Presidential Regulation No. 86 of 2021, includes a long-term plan for developing athletes with disabilities through 2028 and beyond.
