Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The State Secretariat has issued a directive to local administrations, village heads, and hamlet chiefs to proactively monitor vulnerable residents to prevent future tragedies.
Speaking at the Presidential Palace on Wednesday night (4/2/2026), State Secretary and Presidential Spokesperson Prasetyo Hadi said that the recent suicide of a 10-year-old elementary school student in Ngada, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), has become a major focus for President Prabowo Subianto. The administration identified a critical gap in reporting residents who are eligible for, but not yet enrolled in, social assistance programs.
"Village or hamlet heads must continuously monitor and report whenever their citizens are not yet included or recorded as beneficiaries of government programs," he said during a press conference in Jakarta.
The Palace is currently coordinating with the Ministries of Home Affairs, Social Affairs, and Education to evaluate poverty alleviation policies and data accuracy.
The State Secretary said that government intervention must reach the "lowest layers" of society to ensure state presence for those in extreme poverty. The NTT tragedy involves a school boy from a struggling single-mother household.
