Papua Police Chief Urges Relocation of Polling Stations Vulnerable to KKB Threats

Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. Papua Regional Police Chief Inspector General Patrige Renwarin has called on local administrations in regions prone to disturbances by armed criminal groups (KKB) to propose relocating polling stations to safer locations.

“For areas with polling stations at risk of security threats, we urge local administrations to propose to the regional KPU that these stations be moved to safer places,” he said in Jayapura on Wednesday (16/10/2024), referring to the general election commission..

Chief Renwarin said that out of 29 regencies and cities across four provinces, 16 regencies are considered to be at risk, spread across Papua Mountains  and Central Papua, with eight regencies each.

To ensure secure elections, Papua Police will deploy three officers to each vulnerable polling station and have already mobilized 10,000 personnel to safeguard the regional elections, antaranew.com. reported.

Papua Police have requested 1,000 extra officers from Indonesian National Police (INP) Headquarters to assist with election security in Papua. However, the exact number of reinforcements is yet to be confirmed.
