inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. The Papua Regional Police Drug Criminal Investigation Directorate is collaborating with the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), Indonesian National Military (TNI) and Customs to prevent the smuggling and distribution of marijuana from Papua New Guinea (PNG).

The Papua Regional Police Drug Criminal Investigation Directorate, Senior Superintendent Alfian confirms that his party is working with various parties to prevent the smuggling and distribution of marijuana in Papua, considering that the cases are currently increasingly rampant.

"As much as 85 percent of the marijuana circulating in our jurisdiction is smuggled from PNG," said Alfian.

He explained that the areas prone to marijuana smuggling from PNG are Jayapura City, Keerom Regency in Papua Province and Merauke and Boven Digoel Regencies in South Papua Province.

Marijuana smuggling from PNG is mostly through footpaths or back roads along the border in both the north and south.

In addition, it is also through the sea considering that Jayapura City shares a sea border with PNG.

The provinces that border PNG are recorded as five regencies and cities, namely Jayapura City and Keerom Regency in Papua Province, Bintang Mountains Regency in Papua Mountains and Merauke and Boven Digoel Regencies in South Papua.

"Hopefully, with this tight and solid cooperation, cases of smuggling and distribution of marijuana in Papua can be suppressed," hoped Alfian.
