This coordination is part of an effort to prevent and enforce the law against illicit drug trafficking in the Riau Islands region.

Inspector General Asep Safrudin, Chief of Riau Islands Regional Police acknowledged that his jurisdiction area is a border region and vulnerable to being a drug entry route from abroad. Therefore, his party is committed to continuously strengthening collaboration with the BNN and all relevant stakeholders.

"The Riau Islands region is a border region with many entry points, both legal and unofficial. This poses both a challenge and a serious threat. Therefore, we continue to strengthen collaboration with the BNN, the Indonesian National Military (TNI), the Indonesian Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla), the Indonesian National Police's Water and Air Police Corps (Korpolairud), and collaborate with neighboring countries such as Singapore and Malaysia," said Asep in a written statement on Saturday (1/17/2026).

He added that his party, along with the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), and relevant stakeholders are committed to optimizing prevention and enforcement efforts against drug trafficking networks. This is to maintain the security and safety of the Riau Islands community.

The audience concluded with a communal meal and the exchange of souvenirs as a symbol of synergy and shared commitment to eradicating narcotics.
