inp.polri.go.id - Kendari. The Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police, along with farmer groups, held a corn planting activity in the third quarter of 2025 in Abeli Dalam Village, Puuwatu District, Kendari City.
This activity is part of an effort to strengthen national food security while supporting the government's program to achieve food self-sufficiency.
Vice Chief of the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Gidion Arif Setyawan, emphasized that this effort is part of the Indonesian National Police (INP) active role in assisting local governments and communities in facing the challenge of declining corn production in Southeast Sulawesi.
"Food is a matter of national sovereignty and independence. Through this corn seed sowing, we hope to increase agricultural productivity and strengthen Southeast Sulawesi's food security," he said, as reported by the Antaranews page, Tuesday (8/26/2025).
Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), corn production in Southeast Sulawesi in the first half of 2025 only reached 32,082 tons, or a 34 percent decrease compared to the same period in 2024 which reached 48,400 tons. This significant decline poses a serious challenge for the local government and farmers.
To that end, the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police used 3,038 hectares of land from a total potential of 6,666 hectares for corn seedings throughout the Southeast Sulawesi region
"This is a continuous activity from the first, second, and third quarters. We are doing it together with the local government and farmer groups. For now, we are focusing on Abeli Dalam because the land is open and quite large, around five hectares ready for seed sowing," he explained.
