This annual event, which is now entering its fourth year, is present on a larger scale and has achieved international standardization through route approval by AIMS World Running.

The flag-off was launched directly by the Governor of Yogyakarta Special Region, Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X, with full support from the ranks of the Yogyakarta Regional Leadership Communication Forum. 

The Governor was accompanied by the Yogyakarta Regional Police Chief, Inspector General of Police Anggoro Sukartono,SIK, at the starting line, signifying the commitment of the police institution in supporting the national and international scale sport tourism event.

The 2025 Malioboro Run carries the theme "Running with Heart, Explore the Culture", where participants have the opportunity to explore the heritage axes of Yogyakarta with the cultural and historical background of the city.

This event featured three race categories: Half Marathon (21 km) for participants aged 18 and above, 10K (10 km) for participants aged 18 and above, and 5K (5 km) for participants aged 17 and above.

The event served more than just a race, but also a means of promoting culture and driving the local economy.

Of the approximately 7,000 participants, 73% came from outside Yogyakarta, a strong demonstration that the event had successfully attracted national interest in visiting Yogyakarta.

The presence of participants and visitors is expected to increase hotel occupancy, boost local consumption, and expand tourism to heritage destinations within the city.
