Police Closed a Swimming Pool in Garut Following an Incident that Kills a Boy

inp.polri.go.id - Garut. Police have put up police lines and closed the swimming pool after an incident in which a six-year-old died after being pulled into the pool's drainage channel in Pameungpeuk District, Garut Regency, West Java.

Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Garut Sub-regional Police, Police Senior Inspector Joko Prihatin, said that the ANB Garut Hotel swimming pool tourist attraction will be temporarily closed until an undetermined time, and could be reopened if the investigation process is complete and safety standards are met.

“We will reopen the site after its safety standards are met,” says Joko in a telephone call on Monday (2/24/2025).

He revealed that his party received a report that a boy, Bagja Nurjaman (6), suddenly had his hand pulled into the drain while swimming in the ANB swimming pool, Sunday (2/23) at around 10.00 am.

Following the incident, he said that he immediately conducted a crime scene investigation by collecting evidence and asking for witness statements.

"For the time being, we have examined several witnesses related to the incident," he explained.

According to him, related to the examination of the owner of the swimming pool tourist attraction, a summons will also be carried out to ask for information about the incident that killed one tourist.

He said the results of the temporary investigation could not yet conclude whether or not there was an element of negligence, because his staff were still investigating to uncover the case. "We have not concluded yet, still investigating," he concluded.
