inp.polri.go.id - Cirebon. Cirebon Sub-regional City Police named two suspects in the landslide of a C mining area in the Kuda Mountain, Cirebon, that killed dozens of people on Friday (5/30/2025).
Cirebon Sub-regional Police Chief, Senior Superintendent Sumarni said the two suspects were the Chairman of the Al-Azariyah Cooperative with the initials AK as the owner of the mine, and AR who is the Head of Mining Engineering who served as the operational supervisor in the field.
"We have examined eight witnesses and from a series of investigations, we have named two suspects," she said in Cirebon, Sunday.
She explained that both were proven to have continued mining activities, even though they had received a prohibition letter from the local ESDM Service.
According to Sumarni, the prohibition was issued on January 8 and reinforced with a second warning letter on March 19, 2025 as the mining activities had not received approval for the Work Plan and Budget (RKAB).
"Twice a prohibition letter and warning have been issued, but they have not been heeded," she said.
She said that AR as a supervisor in the field carried out AK's orders, without paying attention to occupational safety and health (K3) aspects, until finally the landslide incident on Mount Kuda occurred and caused fatalities.
"The cliff collapsed and buried the workers along with heavy equipment and operational vehicles," Sumarni said.
She noted that the two suspects were charged with Articles 98 and 99 of Law Number 32 of 2009 concerning Environmental Protection and Management, with a maximum criminal penalty of 15 years in prison and a fine of IDR 15 billion.
The police also charged Article 35 of the Manpower Law, Law Number 1 of 1970 concerning Occupational Safety, and Article 359 of the Criminal Code concerning negligence that causes the loss of life of another person.
"For now, the number of fatalities who have been evacuated from the landslide pile is 19 people," she concluded.
