Inp.polri.go.id - South Lampung. The Bakauheni Port Police Office foiled an attempt to smuggle 1,300 birds, including several protected species, through Bakauheni Port in Lampung on Friday night.
“The Bakauheni team secured various types of wild birds, both protected and unprotected,” said Assistant Senior Inspector Edy Saputro, the Head of the Bakauheni Port Police, on Saturday (23/8/2025).
Officers arrested a suspect, Hendrik Arum Eko Prasetyo, from Serang, Banten, after inspecting a bus carrying the birds without proper documentation. The birds were transported from Kayu Agung, South Sumatra, and were destined for Kampung Rambutan, East Jakarta.
Among the seized birds were six protected Sumatran Leafbird (Chloropsis venusta), 350 winged Prinia (Prinia familiaris), 425 Javan Myna (Acridotheres javanicus), 300 Olive-backed Sunbird (Nectarinia jugularis), and dozens of other species. Authorities said illegal wildlife trafficking remains rampant, with Bakauheni Port serving as a major gateway for smuggling to Java.
The seized birds have been taken to the police office for further investigation.
