Police Form Team to Investigate Death of Chinese Citizen in Batam

Inp.polri.go.id - Batam. The Barelang Sub-regional Police in Batam, Riau Islands, has formed a joint team to investigate the death of Chinese citizen Qing Fangting, who was found dead after falling from the sixth floor of a Batam hotel.

"We have established a joint team to handle the case of the foreign national who died at the Asialink Hotel in Batu Ampar," said Assistant Inspector Giadi Nugraha, the Barelang Police Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit g, on Friday (9/8/2024).

The team includes personnel from the Barelang POlice, Batu Ampar Police Office, and the Medical Unit of the Riau Islands Regional Police. Initially supervised by Batu Ampar Police Office with assistance from the Barelang Police, the investigation is now supervised directly by the Barelang Police, according to antaranews.com.

The team is set to determine whether the death was a suicide or if there are other possibilities. They have questioned several individuals, including the victim’s companions who entered Batam together.

The body is currently at the Bhayangkara Hospital and will be repatriated after witness statements complete. Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno has expressed concern over the incident, emphasizing the importance of tourist safety across Indonesia.
