The Criminal Investigation Agency of the Indonesian National Police (INP) has launched an investigation into allegations of religious defamation involving Panji Gumilang, the leader of Al-Zaytun Islamic Boarding School. Law enforcement agencies are prepared to engage the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) and various experts to gather insights and opinions.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs has also expressed its intent to suspend Al-Zaytun Islamic Boarding School if it is found to be promoting deviant teachings, as previously reported.
"We are actively collecting testimonies from witnesses and seeking expert opinions, including those from the MUI," explained Commissioner General Agus Andrianto, Head of the Criminal Investigation Agency, on Sunday (25/6/23).
Furthermore, he affirmed that appropriate legal measures will be pursued if there are indications of criminal violations.
"If there is concrete evidence of religious defamation, we will proceed with further legal proceedings," he concluded, as reported by pmjnews.
