inp.polri.go.id – The ratification of the TPKS Law has created momentum for the Police to accelerate the renewal of the women's child service unit.
Following the ratification of the Sexual Crimes (TPKS) Law on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, the Indonesian National Police Chief (Kapolri) General Listyo Sigit Prabowo is determined to accelerate the establishment of the Directorate of Women and Children Protection (PPA) at the National Police Headquarters. In addition, there will also be a PPA Service Unit in the Regional Police and Departmental Police. All of this is part of the Police's strong concern for the protection of women and children in the future.
Although they are still waiting for the ratification of the TPKS Law by the President, Polri considers that the TPKS Law will make them able to act firmly against sexual crimes against women. According to the Head of the Public Relations Division (Kadiv Humas) of Polri, Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo, it is hoped that the TPKS Law, which imposes high penalties on perpetrators of sexual crimes, will have a deterrent effect on those who intend to do so.
Because so far, the punishment for this crime is considered too light, so the number of crimes tends to increase.
According to mass media observer, Rahmat Edi Irawan, hopefully, the steps taken by the Police will be the answer to the safety of women and children from crimes against them.
"Hopefully with the PPA Service Unit, the victims of sexual abuse will be braver enough to report and comfortable in undergoing the legal process. If things like that can be realized, then people should be afraid to commit such violations", he concluded.
