inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Disaster expert, Adi Maulana, revealed that poor spatial planning is the main challenge to disaster mitigation in urban areas in Indonesia. He said that many big cities do not take disaster risks into account in their regional planning.
"Of course there are other challenges such as urbanization, then also low people awareness. But in my opinion the most important thing is how a city should be designed to accommodate the potential for natural disasters that are then faced," he said, as reported by the RRI on Monday (7/7/2025).
In addition, in terms of public awareness, Adi emphasized the importance of the government's role in providing disaster education. According to him, education can be done through formal and informal channels.
"It could be through every government, both at the district and provincial levels, starting disaster management or disaster awareness," he continued.
