inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto proposed that the ASEAN Secretariat institution and the role of the ASEAN Secretary-General be strengthened so that they can quickly respond to crises that arise from outside the region.

The President emphasized that ASEAN solidarity and unity are currently being tested because of the rivalry between strong countries that can cause global dynamics to change very quickly.

"We are commemorating the 10th anniversary of the ASEAN Community. We are proud of the progress of economic integration, growth, and social cooperation. However, we must work hard to move more effectively, and this includes strengthening the capacity of the ASEAN Secretariat institution," said President Prabowo while speaking at the plenary session of the 46th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Monday (5/26/2025), as quoted from Antaranews.

President Prabowo assessed that ASEAN, in terms of population, is as big as the entire European Union. The economy in the region is also the fastest growing.

"This century is projected to be the era of Asia. Let us not underestimate our own strength and capabilities," said the President.

The President spoke at a panel session of the 46th ASEAN Summit together with nine other leaders of member countries, including Malaysian Prime Minister (PM) Anwar Ibrahim as the host and Chair of ASEAN this year.
