Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has officially designated 15 January Village Day through Presidential Decree No. 23 of 2024.

The decree, issued by President Widodo on 31 July 2024, takes effect immediately, according to antaranews.com on Thursday (1/8/2024).  However, the decree notes that Village Day will not be a public holiday.

According to the decree, villages play a crucial role in government administration, directly serving the community and supporting national unity through their diverse customs and cultures.

Therefore, establishing Village Day aims to reinforce the role of villages, promote understanding of their importance in development and culture, and highlight their progress, as reported by antaranews.com.

The enactment of Law No. 6 of 2014 on Villages on 15 January, 2014 defines the legal status of villages in Indonesia’s governance structure.
