Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo hosted a bilateral meeting with South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Friday (8/9/2023).
President Jokowi and First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo welcomed President Yoon who was accompanied by First Lady Kim Keon Hee at the Jakarta Presidential Palace yard. Following the renditions of both national anthems, President Jokowi invited President Yoon and his accompanying delegation into the Oval Office of the Presidential Palace to engage in a bilateral meeting.
In addition to his participation in the 43rd ASEAN Summit, President Yoon's official visit holds special significance as it aligns with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Indonesia.
"First of all, I would like to convey my sincere appreciation for your support for Indonesia's Chairmanship of ASEAN. Your visit holds great significance, especially as this year marks the 50th anniversary of our diplomatic ties," President Jokowi said as quoted by antaranews.com.
During the inaugural session of the 24th ASEAN-Korea Summit in Jakarta earlier this week, President Yoon said South Korea had launched the Korea-ASEAN Solidarity Initiative (KASI) in 2022. The initiative affirms South Korea's support for ASEAN centrality, strengthening strategic cooperation in politics and security, and exploring cooperation in digital infrastructure and climate change. It also provides South Korea's full support for the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP).
President Yoon said South Korea will organize the 2023 World Expo in Busan, expressing his hopes his country can share experiences with ASEAN on how South Korea can become a leading country within half a century.
