Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo appreciated the efforts of the Indonesian National Police (INP) in combating online gambling, particularly in the area of football, urging them to continue their efforts to eradicate such activities in the future. Speaking at a press conference in Jakarta on Thursday (14/12/23), hei said: "The arrests made by the police yesterday regarding football and online gambling are worth-praising. This is very good; don't stop here, continue the crackdown". President Jokowi underlined the government's commitment to eliminating football-related gambling in Indonesia. He emphasised the need for football to be free from the influence of criminal organisations involved in match-fixing. "For football to be truly clean, for the game to be fair, this is what will lead to the transformation of football in Indonesia," heexplained. The President went on to say that the transformation of Indonesian football will be even more positive if actions such as match-fixing and illegal money transactions within matches are eliminated. "No match-fixing, no money transactions within matches - this will drive the transformation of Indonesian football. If this is not resolved, do not expect our football to rise to the next level, although it has started to improve," he said. (mg/ndt/pr/nm)
