The Maluku Regional Police Chief said that operation in around Mount Botak area must continue to be carried out so that there will be no more illegal mining or other crimes in the area. The Maluku Regional Police themselves have sent a team to assist the Buru Island Police in taking legal action against illegal miners caught in violation.
"This measures is taken to protect our nature and environment, which can endanger the lives of future generations," he said.
The Kapolda also asked the Buru Regency government to carry out a judicial operation. Because, according to the available data, it was people from outside Maluku who did the illegal mining on Mount Botak. "The local government should hold a judicial operation because many illegal miners are not people from Buru," he hoped.
The Kapolda emphasized to his staff that the miners and the one funds them should be given the most severe punishment miners. “We should show them no mercy, both to the financiers and the miners in the field," he said.
He also asked to arrest the perpetrators who smuggled dangerous chemicals such as cyanide and mercury. Because, the impact of using that dangerous materials is very impactful to the environment.
