inp.polri.go.id - East Nusa Tenggara. To commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Indonesian Independence Day, the East Sumba Sub-regional Police's Marine and Air Directorate (Polairud), distributed Indonesian flags to coastal fishing groups at the Waingapu People's Harbor in Kamalaputi Village, Waingapu City District.
Fifty flags were handed out directly to the heads of the fishing groups to be flown on their boats and ships. This symbolic gesture honored the nation's struggle and strengthened the sense of nationalism of the coastal communities.
The Director of Marine and Air Unit of the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Irwan Deffi Nasution, stated that this activity not only strengthened the synergy between officers and the community but also served as an important outreach event regarding marine safety and sustainability.
"We want the Indonesian flag to fly not only on land, but also at sea—on fishing boats as a symbol of national spirit. We also emphasized the importance of sailing safety and the use of environmentally friendly fishing gear," said Irwan.
In addition to distributing flags, personnel provided direct education to fishermen about the importance of preserving the ocean and reminded them to always be vigilant about bad weather while at sea.
