inp.polri.go.id - The Riau Islands Police managed to uncover 15 cases of online and conventional gambling over the past week. During the investigation, 55 suspects were arrested by officers.
Riau Islands Police Chief, Inspector General Aris Budiman said that the prosecution of gambling cases was to provide a sense of security and comfort to the public from gambling practices. This gambling case has also attracted the attention of the National Police Chief to the Regional Police and Polres throughout Indonesia which then ordered polices in Indonesia to eradicate any form of gambling practices.
"There are 15 cases consisting of conventional gambling, which consists of sie jie and playing cards," he told the media crews, Monday (22/08/22).
Inspector General of Police, Aris Budiman explained that for online gambling, there were eight cases handled by the Resort Police and the Regional Police in the Riau Islands Regional Police such as sie jie gambling and online lottery. In addition, his party also succeeded in dismantling the practice of slots.
“The types of gambling that have been successfully uncovered are quite varied. From the gambling case, 55 suspects were secured and are currently still in the process of being investigated," said Akabari graduate in 1988
The roles of the suspects include the one who wrote the sijie paper recap, the paper buyer and the seller. The gamblers were also detained by officers.
"Online gambling operators, customer service on online gambling websites, online gambling shop owners, as well as cashiers and players have all been secured for questioning," explained the former Head of STIK Lemdiklat Polri.
The evidence that was secured were 24 mobile phones, 5 CPU units, 6 monitors, 4 gelper machines, 2 sling bags, money used for gambling transactions, 7 boxes of playing cards, and 7 units of tokens from banks used for transactions.
For their actions, the suspects will be charged with article 303 of the Criminal Code concerning the eradication of gambling with a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
