The Ministry of Immigration and Corrections evacuated inmates from a prison in Aceh Tamiang after floods rose to roof level on Friday (5/12/2025), said Minister Agus Andrianto. The evacuation was conducted as heavy flooding hit parts of Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. 

“We had to release the inmates because the water had reached the roof. This was purely for humanitarian reasons,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com

Authorities are still locating the evacuated inmates due to unsafe conditions. 

The Corrections Directorate has been ordered to assess damage, while the Corrections Directorate is checking affected units. it also sent 20 tons of rice, children’s supplies, canned food, and other essentials via the Navy to support flood victims.

The ministry said the assistance reflects solidarity and follows the President’s directive to help residents awaiting aid.
